This is someone's HOME!
Little boys who live in this town with a remote control fire boat, squirting passersby. So sweet!
People actually live here.....year-round.
We stopped for a quick coffee here before continuing our walk.
Every single house and detail, is more picturesque than the last.
We all kept squealing every time we'd see another house and could not STAND how beautiful this village was. It's like a movie-set.
My camera wouldn't focus but this was meant to show how, in the winter time, Geithoorn turns into a canal of ice skating paths! Oh come Onnnn! Could this place be any more magical? Oh, yes, it can....in the winter....
And now ready for our turn to take a boat ride through the canals. First we walked around for about an hour, then came back into the main road in town and rented our own little boat (€10 for one hour) and explored the canals.
There couldn't have been a better day to be here. It was warm (nearing hot) but also cool enough that we weren't dripping sweat all day.
This is a person's home....a real home. And there is no editing of any kind on this photo.
And after our boat trip? Kibbeling of course! (Well, Rick & Wayne had Lekkerbekken - which is like fish n' chips but better, better, better).
Eels in the case at the café. I discreetly took this photo of the case so they didn't think I was a weirdo (or get offended).
Our wonderful Pake - Wayne's Dad, Rick - also the captain or our little boat in Geithoorn.
Looks like the lost boys' boat, heading out to the swimming island.
The destination for all the locals (and tourists too). This is a crescent-shaped island out in the middle of the lake (each of the canals in the village open out into this lake). So, we're looking at the back of the crescent and when you go around it, there's a little beach-cove - all knee-deep to waist deep water, even a 1/4 mile off the shore. And the water was sooo lovely!
Everyone just ties their little boats up on the periphery and spends all day out there.
What's that umbrella over there?? An ice cream boat?? Turn left!
Ok, the water's not exactly pretty but it felt so good.
We could NOT stop taking pictures, all day long.
Love this one.
Real rum....no joke.
No filter on this, not sure why it did this "hazy thing" but love this photo and love this woman.
One happy boat of Dykstras!

Thanks Aunt Rosie! We were in absolute heaven in that village. Still reeling from seeing that place. :)
