Sunday Walk and a Cyber-Trip to Tesco

Just thought this car was cute. This is parked at our complex. It's an Audi but looks sort of like a Prius. And, oddly enough, it has the steering wheel on the American side.
This is the Dun Laoghaire (Dun Leary) East Pier on a busy, clear Sunday. This is the place where I met for my run yesterday. We can only imagine what it looks like in the Summer if this is on January 8th. Today it was 11 degrees, or about 51-52F, so very mild.
Mommy and Norah on the Metals. It's a stone walkway that goes for about 5 miles (maybe more).

 People's Park Weekend Farmer's Market
Playground in People's Park. We, literally, had to wait in line for Norah to use a swing. Never experienced that before. And then we could only let her swing for about 2 minutes because there was a line-up of 4 or 5 more parents&babies waiting.
The grain/spice merchant in the Market.

AND: A TRIP TO THE GROCERY STORE!
I have to give credit to my sister Sarah who had the ingenius idea to give you all a tour of our grocery store - just to see small cultural differences and some prices as well. Thank you Sarah, for the idea. Hopefully you find it interesting. =)
Here's video of the entrance....

(Click in bottom right corner to make larger)
Here are the infamous 1 EURO carts (which I wrote about in one of the original posts). You put in your 1 Euro coin to use it and then when you plug it back in, at the end, it pops your Euro back out.
A Litre of Milk. Whatever that is. :) It's about a 1/4 gallon. So, it would be 3 EURO for a gallon which is $3.80 US
I always love to see this section. It's twice the width of this as well. This is the Polish Section! I'm an honorary-Lidzbarski so I feel akin to this section.
Other prices to compare - random cans of beans, 99 cents. So, $1.27 US. Not cheap, as even at Whole Foods, ("Whole Paycheck" as some say), cans of organic black beans are 85 cents, US.

 Cheerios - 3 EURO ($3.80 US)
And for the large box - ie: the box that would last more than 2 days - $5.40 US
95 cents (Euro) - $1.20
They are verrry big on baked beans, in tomato sauce here. This is a regular staple in any traditional Irish breakfast. So, if you had the "continental breakfast" at a hotel, for example, they would serve a variety of sausages, eggs, and baked beans. (and often sauteed mushrooms as well)
Some cereals are the same - some are different
Rice Milk - Soya Milk
Flahavan's Quick Oats and Ready Brek - both of which we eat regularly. =)
Appears pretty normal - Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter....but wait, what's that above there?
Here's the close up: Oh, it's Chicken & Ham Paste.
More Chicken & Ham paste
And Plain Chicken Paste...
Ooo...And Tuna & Mayonnaise paste.. if you weren't barfing already. Maybe these are the Po' man's Pate' but I can't see any reason to ever put this in your mouth.
I was surprised to see Vegemite! I've only ever seen this (or had this) in Australia. I don't intend to ever eat it again. It's a 'yeast paste' which is essentially a black-salt-paste that you put on toast. You'd think, given my salt-addiction, I would like this but it's too much, even for me. (And I put salt on cup o' noodles)
Biscuits (cookies)
The un-refrigerated Egg Section.
I defy you to recognize a single one of these medicines. I don't. It's funny too - for the cough medicines the categories are "Tickly Cough" and "Chesty Cough". So cute.
Here's a random shot of an infant cereal they give young babies here. "Rice Cereal" in Seattle or "Pablam" (spelling?) in Ontario. In Ireland - Cow & Gate.
The very long check-out lines where you bag your own groceries (which is always kind of stressful because they go very quickly and when you're packing everything for the long walk home, it can take awhile to get situated). So, you always feels slightly rushed because the next person is waiting for you to finish packing before they'll start ringing up their groceries.
Norah hugs these two dogs everytime we leave Tesco. She hugs each one, kisses each of their noses (not the most sanitary) and says "Nice uh meetchu puppy-doggies"

Ham and chicken paste! Oh Dad is going to love it! The video was cool, can you post one of Norah kissing the dogies on the way out next time, that is soooo adorable!
What about that escalator as you first entered the store? It looked like a big moving ramp similar to the moving walkways at airports but on a slant. I've never seen that before.

Hey Mimi,
Yeah, we'll have to get a jar of that for Dad! haha! And, yes I'll try to get a short video of us leaving and her walking up to the doggies.
The escalator, yeah, it's sort of like one in the airport but goes to the 2nd floor. That's where the 'carpark' is (garage). Odd that its upstairs huh? So, people haul their carts on their to go back upstairs.

I was just trying out, leaving a comment as "Anonymous" to see if it would let me make a comment without signing in. So, Sarah, if you see this, that's how you make a comment. Just click "Make Comment", then type in the "verification word" and then select the "anonymous" option below. It should let you then.

We here in good old Ontario have the same check out process...bag yourself. It sometimes makes for a longer process, which seems inefficient. Love the blog...keep the updates coming! Love to you all!
