The only thing I'm mourning is the fact that there can be no illusions about us still having a 'baby'. Of course she'll be our "baby" even when she's 25... but when you have a two year old, there's no more saying "oh, she's only 1 1/2". She is officially TWO. No more 'months' when saying her age, no more discounts for having an 'under two' - and worst of all, no more not buying her a plane ticket. Ahh! This is single-handedly going to bankrupt us. =)
Anyway, it's a long boring story but we had planned to be in Turkey for Norah's birthday. "Two in Turkey" was to be the theme. Come on, it's perfect! (Reminder: Our friends Vickie and Pete live in Turkey) Anyway, our plan was to visit them, then the whole green card thing came up and we thought we would need to be in Seattle in May or June. Well, still no notice from US Immigration on when we are required to be there so we were not in Turkey for her birthday, we were not in Seattle, and then before I knew it, it was 3 days before her birthday and I had nothing planned. It was too short of notice to plan a real party but we saw our friends Kirsten, Goran and Lilia who said they wanted to drop off a little gift for Norah. Then we asked our friend Loren if he wanted to drop by and so we had a little impromtu get-together for our two year old. More than enough for her!
No bouncy castle for this girl. But boy does her mother know how to decorate! =) This is so sad but I wanted to do something...and this is where my creativity peaked.
Loren, very excited for Norah to open her present.
This one is so great.
PARTY!
Norah and Lilia
Luckily Wayne found a lighter on the ground, several months ago, or else we would've had no way to light these candles. Something you don't think of but that would've been disappointing when it came to candle-lighting time. =)
Singing Happy birthday to herself.
The very intense inhale....
Annndd...blow 'em out!!
Little blurry but she was so happy in this one!
This hair can be slightly unruly
I made a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.
Lilia and her mom and dad brought Norah this aqua-doodle travel thing and she loves it! You fill the pen with water and it 'writes' on the white part without creating any mess! Perfect gift for a two year old!
Up to the 7th floor to the rooftop deck!
Our family, on Norah's 2nd Birthday!
And just for fun, here's the same picture last year on Norah's first birthday:
This feels like two lifetimes ago, when we were still living in Seattle.
So, this year, do we look older? Wiser? More European? =)
And this morning we received Norah's birthday present from Nana! She MADE THESE!! They are so cute I could just faint. They are Uhhhh-DORable. I'm not over-exaggerating here.
I wish the lion was the size of a car and I could just hug it all day long.
Norah just after opening them. I love how the lion is a "bumble-bee"!!
(look at the giraffe's TAIL! It's frayed at the end...SO cute)
Despite what they tell you, it's great to have a two year old and we are very truly blessed to have this little girl.
Happy Birthday Norah!!

Belated Happy Birthday Norah! It looks like she had a great day! I love the family pictures - you need to take one every year - wait until she towers over you two! :)
Was at the hospital with Opa and Oma and showed them the video of sweet little Norah. Opa could hear her tiny voice and smiled. Oma and Opa say happy birthday and send lots of love. Great Opa and Oma. Xoxo
Thank you everyone! Aunt Rosie,
Nothing makes me happier than to hear that. I just said to Wayne yesterday "maybe someone could bring a computer to the hospital because Opa probably doesn't know i have 3 new posts!" =) But I was half-joking because I thought it would be a pain for someone to bring a computer or iPad or whatever. I really, really hope it made him happy to see them. Both Oma and Opa. Thinking of you all everyday. Love Gloria
Happy Birthday little Norah!
I've loved keeping up with your family and your adventures.
That peanut butter frosting sounds amazing...recipe?
Aly, Thanks so much!! Here's the random recipe I found for the PB Frosting: I just googled "Peanut Butter Frosting without Powdered Sugar":
http://www.sunnimaravillosa.com/node/1210
It was good but I don't have a mixer here so I used one of those hand-blenders which did NOT do the trick. It would be a bit more frosting like if you had a real hand mixer/beater. Confession: I ate nearly a 1/4 of it the day before just putting it on bread and a banana. So, it's almost better as sort of a peanut butter/sugar spread (sort of like peanut butter flavored Nutella). =) If you can have dairy (which we can't) you could make a much fluffier one but this one is "healthy" as frostings go. =)
Great! I'll try it. I love peanut butter...a little too much I think. I'm daydreaming of putting this on a chocolate cake right now. Yum.
