Or, I should say, "A Trip to See the Tiny Box of Remains of St. Valentine that were exumed and have remained in Dublin since 1836". The remains and shrine to St. Valentine reside in the Whitefriar Street Church in Dublin which is part of the Order of Carmelites (who I'm not all that familiar with). As far as I can tell, they're a division of Catholicism. Anyway, it was a really gorgeous church and certainly worth the trip.
Here's a bit about St. Valentine and the Church:
Waiting for the DART train to Dublin (get out of our picture lurker)
"Our Lady of Dublin Remember Us"
This was very sweet. This Grandmother walked around the church with her granddaughter and said a prayer at each altar to the saints. They lit a candle at each and the little girl seemed genuinely interested.
"I will spend my heaven doing good on earth" - St. Therese
Looking at this, Norah said: "This a Beautiful Pitture Mommy" (heart-melter)
Pake - Here's the organ. This is said to be one of the best in Ireland.
Annnd, here it is: St. Valentine in a tiny box. We were so curious - WHICH remains are in the box? How did they choose??
We then had a nice lunch in a little cafe' and later made our way to Starbucks on Grafton Street. It's funny, in Seattle I barely ever went to Starbucks (because if I ever did go out, I preferred to go to the smaller, privately owned shops) but here, I've been to Starbucks more in these last two months than I had in over a year in Seattle. I think it's just comforting to see the Starbuck's logo and sit on the chairs that are the same everywhere.
And then we made our way to the 46A bus and rode on home. Norah - our little Valentine, was a trooper as always. We got her a chocolate muffin at Starbuck's....so that helped.
Happy Valentine's Day to all my loves at home in Seattle, and in Ontario. And to my other loyal readers scattered about in California, Idaho, Vancouver, Calgary, Turkey, and Ireland - We love, love, love you!

Lovely way to celebrate a beating and beheading - buying chocolates and flowers! :\
Ahhh,what about us in Kelowna????
:(
YES YES YES! Kelowna! That was my fault. I didn't forget about you but I kind of lumped you into Vancouver. Unfair. I should've written B.C. =) You were on my mental list for sure.
Aunt Janet - I know! I was thinking the same thing. What a terrible and brutal death and now we celebrate it with Teddy Bears, Candy and Cards. Who knows, maybe he would've been honored by it?? =)
